ABOUT

Hello, I am Rafteli,
I specialise in analogue photography, working primarily within the colour darkroom creating c-type prints. I capture landscapes and objects that occur by chance within life.
My photography style is all due to my camera apparatus, I work with an Olympus OM1 that was handed down to me from my great uncle. The camera is from the 70's, because of this, all my images come out with the colourful and nostalgic hue.

The project titled ‘Bewildered’ explores the themes of journey, migration, childhood and nostalgia.

Diving into images of my life from my birth place of Greece to my hometown in Wales and currently living in Brighton.
50%-75% of the population feels or has felt homesick. The project is about addressing the subject of homesickness. Bringing the viewers a sense of nostalgia and adding to the conversation around change and migration.

Darkroom

The colour darkroom plays such a large role in my development and process.
The period between taking and developing the image plays a profound psychological role. Remembering the moment the image was taken; the smell, the weather, then adjusting the settings to match your memory.

The MA Show ‘Entanglement’ exhibited myself and my peers work. Showcasing my series titled ‘Bewildered’, I received a lot of excellent feedback regarding my work. I was delighted that I could experience and learn about the photography industry further.
